Hi I’m Stephen (he/they)!
I direct, make and produce theatre. I also do dramaturgy, access consultation and facilitation.
In 2022 I won the The Royal Theatrical Support Trust Sir Peter Hall Director Award and directed The Real and Imagined History of The Elephant Man for Nottingham Playhouse and a national tour.
I graduated from LAMDA in 2016. I’ve worked for the Royal Opera House, National Theatre, Hampstead Theatre and Graeae. I was Resident Assistant Director at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2020 and 2021. I’ve regularly worked internationally in Europe.
I love collaboration; I am passionate about question the structures and preconceptions of the world. I love to engage with academic or thinky ideas and work out how to make this accessible and presentable.
I’m a disabled, neurodivergent artist. Some people think that matters a lot. Some people don’t want to work with me after they find out. Subverting and evolving non-disabled structures and challenging venues and audiences is important to me. My work often wants to question assumptions about working with disability - in terms of the work and myself.
My work has been supported by the Royal Theatrical Support Trust, Barbican, Unlimited, Arts Council England, British Council, London Borough of Culture and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
